I've had this discussion with my mates a lot lately and was interested to hear other people's thoughts on the subject.
Which alternative fuel would you prefer your future car be powered by
LPG, hydrogen, ethanol, electricity, some sort of hybrid...?

With all the enviromental talk going on these days, it's important for people to realise that change is required.
With manufacturers such as Saab creating a hybrid concept car that looks like an aeroplane on wheels - Saab Aero X - people will be attracted to the idea. It's important that manufacturers make these next generation cars look good, as opposed to the dorky styles that have previously been released.
I hear Holden are even creating their own hybrid engine that will be found under the bonnet of Commodores and Statemen in the coming years.
I think it's great that manufacturers have begun taking the auto industry to the next level - the Earth needs it

Hydrogen will be increasingly important in developing sustainable transportation in the future, it can be produced in virtually unlimited quantities using renewable resources.
Widespread use of hydrogen as an energy source would help address concerns about energy security, air quality, and global climate change.

Wow, I was just researching this very topic and stumbled across this forum whilst searching for a second hand car.
Its a very interesting topic and very topical.

I agree...I think these sort fuels are way off. These new forms of fuel will change society, for better or worse. On one hand it will be great for the environment, but on the other hand peoples patience will be tested as these fuels will slow cars on the road down (I assume) and the term Sunday driver will be a thing of the past...we will all become everyday drivers.
I look forward to the day that petrol stations install a Hydrogen, Electic etc pump
Has anyone seen the movie Demolition Man? Society seems to work with such enviro friendly automobiles

Before the drought hit us I would have said hydrogen was the way to go
but I can see the future bringing us Hydrogen Patrol Rangers making sure we weren't filling up our tanks illegally on Wednesdays & Sundaysway.
Seriously though, I think hydrogen is the fuel of the future judging from the info that we have been given to believe at present.

There was an automotive article a couple months back showing a concept vehicle by GM called the VOLTA which I think was suggested to be in production by year 2012.
This vehicle had all the wheels driven by electric motors.
It could be re-charged from the home power supply and if done at off peak rates this is very cheap.
It also had a small petrol engine that would be used to generate electricity into the batteries if your vehicle use was for a distance greater than the batteries could handle. THerefore its electricity range was limitless.
The small petrol engine (generator) was very efficient in that it only needed to generate about 40 kilowatts of power and of course would run at its most efficient speed.
This is what I would call an ideal vehicle ... and for us in Australia it would be even better still if the petrol generator engine was LPG fueled.

HI THERE I HAVE JUST VISITED THE CHOICE SITE AS WELL AND FOUND IT HELPFUL TO AN EXTENT...BUT I HAVE A 4WD PAJERO 2002 AUTO ON PETROL AND AM LOOKING TO CONVERT IT TO DUAL GAS/PETROL. I AM GETTING A LOT OF CONFLICTING INFO REGARDING THIS SOME PEOPLE HAVE TOLD ME DONT OTHERS HAVE SAID THEY HAVE BEEN OK...I AM HOPEING SOMEONE OUT THERE HAS A PAJERO ALREADY CONVERTED WHO CAN HELP ME?
