hey there,
I've just recently purchased a car and I'm a girl!

What I looked for was a little different from you though.

However, when I was looking I saw the Holden Viva sedan is a nice little car or you have the Astra, or the Vectra.

With Ford you have the Focus. Nissan the Tiida - Pulsar's replacement. This isn't a bad car, except the shape is a bit dodgy!

Hyundai is the Elantra, I don't mind the look of this car. My previous car was the excel and it had a great fuel economy.

All the smaller cars would have a better fuel economy. It depends on what you like. What I'd recommend is going to the major dealers and go for a test drive in all the smaller cars. Then choose one that is the right price, and what you like best!

Good luck!

Hi there,

if you're looking for an economical little car i'd suggest the new diesel cars ie. the astra or peugot or even look for the new mazda 6 diesel, all of which average around 5L per 100km. manuals are generally more economical if you are comfortable driving one. Also, take a knowledgeable male (or female) friend or relative with you to help with all the motor talk and to try and get the best deal.

good luck!

Hi there!

I think most of the new cars these days are pretty good from a mechanical sense and as others have said, generally the smaller the car (and engine) the better the fuel economy will be.

Some good suggestions brought up before - don't forget the trusty Toyota Corolla though for great value and reliability.

At the risk of self-promotion (!), consider using an independent car buying service like Private Fleet to help you with the actual purchase. That way there's no bias towards makes or models and you have someone who can go into bat for you with the dealers.

Good luck!

You should try carshowroom.com.au (there's "cars for women" section)...

Good luck with buying a car.

Firstly, how much do you want to spend? Auto or Manual? 2dr or 4dr?

I would reccommend you keeping clear from Holden Astra's, Barina's, Viva's and Vectra's. They will burn a very big hole in your pocket. They have problems galore and each person i speak to who owns each of these vehicles only have problems.

If i were you i would be leaning towards the asian cars such as Nissan, Toyota, Mitsubishi and Mazda's. They are very reliable cars and extremely fuel efficent.

I have a 1994 Nissan Pulsar and i do around town driving during the week and big drives on weekends and i fill up once a week getting 450k's plus and thats filling up with 1/4 of a tank to go. My mum has a 2001 corlla and gets 500k's out of a full tank.

Goodluck and keep away from Holden's

The Hyundai Accent and Getz offer exceptional value for money and are highly reliable as they come with a 5 year warranty. It is hard to go past one of these vehicles.
