I have had a few mobile phones, mostly Nokia (which all made me happy) I then stepped out of my comfort zone and got a Sony Ericsson T610, boy have I regretted it. I should have taken it back within a month or so, the navigation stick would become difficult to use and it gets better for a while, then bad (you get the idea), and it was locked to Vodafone. Now I think it is time to get another phone, I think I might go back to Nokia, but I like LG appliances and I see they now have many phones on the market? Do they compare, stand up against or just trample all over Nokia? or is there another brand that I just have to have? Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Bandi.

With you on the Nokia/Sony experience - i've always had Nokias except for a T100 a few years ago which I hated. Now loving my Nokia 6670.
A couple of friends of mine had LG phones on 3 shortly after they launched - the software scrambled, and they got new ones. Was speaking to one of them and her comments on them were that they are fairly bland, however the new Chocolate one looks pretty good.

| I have always had Nokia phones and loved them. I recently won a Sony Ericsson K750i and it's taken a lot of getting used to. I agree that the joysticky thing is annoying, however they all seem to be getting joysticks these days. The navigation on the menus is hard to get used to and I find myself having to go the long way around whenever I want to do something simple like forward a message to more than one person. If I were you I'd go back to Nokia. I haven't found anything as user friendly as them.

I currently have a Motorola Razr - great phone, not to everyone's tastes though.
Definitely check out Samsung phones though; nokia-stye user friendliness, pleasant design, excellent build quality

I used to have a Sony Erricsson K500i, which was nice and compact. I've recently migrated to a Motorola RazR v3x and because of it's size, it took awhile for me to be completely sold on it.
But the functionality is quite good and the camera pixels are stronger. More memory allows for more MP3's (but kinda useless if you have an iPod as well )
The best thing is you can really poersonalise everything - including the menu order, shortcut keys and even where things are positioned. The internet connection is super fast - just be careful not to go nuts on it or the phone bill will start to increase!

Although I have owned several Nokia mobile phones, I have to say, they caused me the most heartache.. Last time I owned a Nokia, I had to get the screen replaced 3 times (and this is with careful use!).. That one was the Nokia 8250.
Ever since that dilemma, I have moved on to Samsung mobiles.. they've treated me well, though there has been one dilemma with my E700 where the software would just restart the mobile every so often.. hmm!?
Maybe they just make these mobile devices to work for a limited time, to just make it past the shop's warranty.. HAHA! then we have to pay for servicing!!!!!

I have two mobiles for business and home. I do a lot of travelling and like to be able to use my phone without thinking about who I am ringing (what freebies , time and choice of number can I call at what times etc)
I also love user friendly phones with bells and whistles.
In the early part of Hutchinson 3 Mobile, they were very limited in the range they could be used and there were frequent problems with the software on the phones. I have plenty of colleagues whom I regularly ask about their phones and phone carriers.
Recently in the last year with the advent of the 3 G network, 3 Phones have got far better coverage, as they use the Telstra network outside of home range. The only down side is , when switching from 3 network to telstra, whilst on the phone you may drop out. You sign the acknowledgement of this problem in your 3 contract. Vodaphone and Optus is crappy and limited in their coverage.
The best and by far the most useful carriers are Hutchinson 3 and Telstra.
Having been with Telstra for 20 years I recently switched one of my phones to 3 network and went on a $49 plan for 2 years, which includes $230 worth of calls, sms, mms, to any carrier and an additional $130 I think to any 3 network phone in any one month. The phone, an LG was free. No additional fees per month. Its great, it has video calling, MP3 player and all the accessories are included free. Headset, phone charger, cigarette lighter charger and Leather Case. The navigation is based loosly on nokia navigation , so if you have had nokias, as I have, you will find that you will not need the book to learn how to use it and its damn easy. Theres a lot of useful functions like blocking of silent numbers ( This has been great to stop all the telephone canvassing I used to receive) I load up the songs I like from my computer and when I go walking I play them. I don't buy ringtones, I make them on my computer or use existing songs and delegate them to people that ring me so I know who is ringing before I look. There's heaps more functions.
In the last 6 months, I have not exceeded my cap.
Before switching, I rang telstra and asked if they could as least match the offer from 3. The closest I could get was a $49 cap which included $200 in calls + $50 to any telstra. Phone was extra. If I wanted free phone I had to go to the higher cap of $79.
Since I wasn't exceeding my cap, I cut the telstra one down to $20 access a month whilst I was trialling the 3 phone.
I am saving over $150 per month now.
In a few months or sooner, I will be switching my second mobile from telstra to 3 as I am more then happy with the phone system and service.
Most carriers let themselves down with customer service as they are moving to automated systems, where you leave a number or wait in a line to get to talk to a real person.
I will be waiting a few more months for the next round of new phones, to see what alternatives are on offer before signing up again.
My choices of Carriers out of all that I have researched and tried would be
1 Hutchinson 3
2 Telstra
My Choice of Phones
1 LG
2 Nokia

| So it does not seem that LG has been slated by anyone. What is a good model? I do not need a camera, but these days most seem to have one. I say give me function and I will use my camera as a camera and my phone as a phone.

I do a lot of travelling for my job. For this reason I like phones that can synchronise with my calender and outlook. I also like the ability to connect to the internet at hotspots throughout the country. That is why I generally go for the i-mates or PDA's with phones. I think these phones will be the future. They will get smaller and small and replace the current phones. Sure they are a little big now but they are heaps better then carrying round a laptop, pda and mobile. All in one.
Cheers.
