Anyone got any inside info on this? I know Plasma is still cheaper but what about ongoing costs etc? I've heard that Plasma needs 'refilling'? I also heard that LCD doesnt handle shadows and rapid movement as well as plasma. I get the feeling that LCD is more likely to be around longer.

Any owners out there have any views/

Thanks!

plasma's chew more power, but you will get a bigger screen for a cheaper price. picture quality is about the same now, so similar it comes down to personal choice. i suggest going into JB looking at their wall of TV's, pick one you like the picture of and write the model number down and then visit this page to make sure you get the best price.. general rule; panasonic best value plasma, samsung/sony best lcd's.. http://hdtvprices.pbwiki.com/

Thanks for the info, looking at the Sony's at the moment. They have such great picture quality and overall looks. Now of course I read about the new stuff arriving soon!

"Sony says it will sell a 102-centimetre (40-inch) LCD TV that is as thin as a CD case and another smaller model that's only marginally thicker than a business card in Australia early next year.

And by December this year it will debut one, dubbed the Bravia EX1, measuring up to 132 centimetres (52 inches) diagonally that transforms into a digital picture frame when switched off."

TV technology is changing soooooo fast!

It all depends on the size of the screen you want and what you want to watch. Though Plasma is a newer technology than LCD which has been around many years as computer monitors

Plasma is better for Sports because you do not get the ghosting affect that you do with LCD's.

If you want to hook you Xbox or Play Station into it and play games all day LCD is better as it handles animation far better than Plasma.

For General TV viewing if you want 42 inches or bigger go Plasma if less than 42 inches go for a LCD.

Don't take to much judgement on what they look like in the store as it is well known some retailers will alter the picture quality on various screens to help sell the brands that they may get some sort of sales rebate kickback from the manufacturer on. Plus you will find that the lighting conditions in a store a different from you lounge room and that will alter they way it looks.

I recently purchased a 50 inch full HD 1080p Panasonic Plasma and it is awesome. I chose Plasma because I watch heaps of sport. I then chose the Panasonic because it's screen is far less refelective compared to other Plasma brands and I have a house with big windows and lots of natural light.
