Hi All,
Just finished my business website and was wondering:
How do I get my website onto all the big search engines (Google, Yahoo, etc)?
How long does it take for a search engine to recognise your site in the search results?
Does it cost to get your site to appear at the top of search results?

Its free to submit your website to google and yahoo etc.
heres links to add your website to searches.
http://www.google.com/addurl/
http://au.siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/free/request
yahoo now requires you to create or have a yahoo account to list your site.
also with free listings, theres not much of a chance of getting a high rank unless you know a bit about optimising your website for search engines. Having your ad above the top free rankings costs money to have your ad there.
I advertise my website on google, but trying to make your ad effective without wasting your money is pretty tough.
i found a business that i get to advertise my website with the paid ads in google and they do a pretty good job with it, and they charge barely anything for their fees. they also optimised my website for heaps cheap and now im getting top 10 page rank for my businesses website and that ends up saving me more money as i dont have to pay for as many ads as people are finding my website for free. i really recommend them.
the link for them is http://www.diversedigitaldesign.com/
they have a referral program if you get a custom ad with them that will benefit both of us, you will get a free website address sticker for your car window or whatever and ill get 1/2 price fees for 2 months.

| i forgot to mention. It can take up to 2 weeks for your website to appear in search when you submit for free. Google accepted mine instantly when i submitted my site there. yahoo took a long time.

Another good way is to use social bookmarking sites like digg.com, stumbleupon, etc... telescope
These sites have very high page rank and google will pick them up really quickly.
We got our site picked up within days.
Hope this helps.

| Submitting is a bad idea especially for Google. It's better they find your site naturally. The sugegstions of submitting to digg and bookmarking sites are good ones. You can also write article and press releases and distribute them online. If I can help you more let me know. I do this for my sites and also many clients some of whom hold top spots on Google and have done for a long time.

Hi Davey
Getting a business website designed and hosted on the Internet is only the beginning of your business needs. What is important for any small business is that your website needs to be found by your customers. Unfortunately, most web designers dont worry about where you will rank as long as the site looks flash. Flash doesnt get you found.
I know this because i am a small business coach that helps business owners get their webiste listed in the best ranking positions within a month. Recently i have helped a large business get a 234% increase in visitors and listed in the top 10 across all their categories.
My suggestions for improving your positions
1. Make sure your content is useful and exactly what your customers want without being more than 500 words.
2. Select 5 keyword phrases that you want to rank highly for.
3. Use these phrases in your content where you can without over use.
4. Submit your website to good directories and avoid link farms. The better the link site matches your business the better.
5. It will take over 100 links to start getting good results
If any small business owners want to boost their business i will give a copy of Small Business Guide Tips to anyone that emails me for a FREE one. No obligations or commitments required. Yours completely free.
Warm Regards
Paul
