This is just an out of interest question really, how does everyone prefer to buy there music these days?

Do you buy CD's or prefer Vinyls or are you completely digital and only download via Itunes or similar or do you not buy music at all and only download through shareware programs.

Me, I've recently grown fond of Vinyl's so have been buying some of my favourite albums of all time in that format - I just think they look cooler and have a different sound sure I still buy CDs but Vinyl's are my current love.

Haven't ventured into paying for downloads via Itunes or anything yet is this a good way to build your music collection? I guess I like to have something physical to associate with the music like artwork, lyrics, etc.

Well , I still buy CDs these days , but only from artists that I know will produce a full album worth paying for.
Others I generally will grab MP3s for the convenience - if I d/l an MP3 of a song that I like , I have in the past bought CDs of the artists.

As for iTunes , for starters I can't use the site as I run Linux , and secondly I would never buy music that has DRM attached. If I pay for something I should be allowed to listen and copy it to any device I choose.

Same applies for DVDs these days , have very few DVDs as I mostly like older movies ( a lot of which aren't available on DVD ). That's why I stick to buying laserdiscs - a better range of my type of movies etc and I do prefer the quality over DVD or Blueray.

physical formats (vinyl, tape, cd etc) are merely aesthetic, although each of these has the audio info contained in different ways and correspondingly different "sound quality." if sound quality is a measure of how accurately a sound can be stored and reproduced then CD would be the best (even though it is digital and does not use analogue "continuous" data).

i agree with previous post about itunes, especially because mpegs are compressed audio which do not offer the audio spectrum that a CD typically would. the ipod is a cool gadget though so i just got the largest ipod i could find (80Gig) and place .wav files on it (CD quality audio) and never buy from itunes. so what if i can only fit about 40 albums on it?

in conclusion - CD is best and it's transferrable. Vinyl is still good for blues and scratchin, and selling if it's mint.

Yeah - I thought I would continue buying CD's but I don't really. I download most songs I like. Its better than buying an album just for 1 or 2 songs and then the rest of the album sucks. Sometimes I do have to buy CDs if I can't find it online to download.
