I don't know what to look for in a baby cot? all i know is that it is a baby bed.
My sister is pregnant and any day soon will be due, and I would love to get her a cot for the new room, if anyone can tell me what to look for I would greatly appreciate it.

Newborn babies can sleep in a cot straight away, but most parents prefer to wait until their baby is around 4-6 months old before moving them into a cot.
things to consider when buying a cot:
* The size of the cot (take into account your baby's size, how long you are planning to use it and don't forget to measure the room)
* What sort of mattress (it is unlikely to have a mattress included in the price of the cot)
* Will it co-ordinate with the room? (some manufacturers make matching furniture for nursery coordination)
* What type of cot? (they range from corner, bedside and rocking designs)
You can buy a 2nd hand one, but make sure that they meet the safety standards and make sure that you can get your hands on the manufacturers instructions for the model. For hygiene sake, if you opt to get a 2nd hand cot, buy a new mattress.
Hope this info helps!

I would insist to take your sister with you when you go shopping for the nursery as she'll have an idea of what she wants it to look like, what size and whether it fits the nursery theme.
