For general TV/DVD use I would recommend plasma. LCD would suit High Definition TV users, or those wishing to connect a computer to their tv.
Plasma Pros: Excellent viewing angles, excellent colour range and contrast.
Plasma Cons: They have high power use, can have images 'burnt in' and are not suitable for close viewing. They will not last as long as an LCD.
LCD Pros: Superior brightness, low power usage, zero flicker (no eye strain), produce very sharp, crisp images when in their 'native' resolution- ie, when they are used with High Definiton, or for computer use.
LCD Cons: Comparatively poor viewing angles, contrast is lower than Plasma/CRT, old panels can have latency which can make moving images slightly blurred. This is not a problem for new LCDs however.
Hope this helps!

am looking at investing in one or the other, being a huge fan of my PlayStation and saving hard for the PS3 when it comes out, which would be better for gaming?

Currently many of the gamers sites say that the old CRT tellies still produce the best results - over plasma or LCD.
Plasma's have been leading the field - but LCDs are fast closing if not ahead by now and have been closing the gap on the blacker blacks issue and the viewing angle issue, this can be demonstrated by a visit to any electronics showroom.
If you can bags the remote, and sit front and centre in your household DK go LCD I.M.O ..........

was over at a mate's place, they've just got a new Samsung one. was very impressed at the picture quality, so have started saving for the 32".
it's going to upset the cat when i get it as he loves sprawling out over the top of the old set. think it might have to be wall-mounted too to dissuade him from climbing up onto it.

Hey there - a friend of mine has a LCD/Plasma (not sure which) and whilst the picture size is huge, the quality is a bit poor in that people seem 'stretched'. Does this happen on LCD or Plasma TVs or both?
I'm not sure about the Samsung quality but surely the big name brands like Sony would be good? Of course the price probably matches the name

| What about the SONIQ brand that they are selling at JB Hifi. They are very cheap, under 2k for a 42".

I personally wouldn't buy a non-brand name when it comes to buying a LCD or plasma. I'd rather pay a little extra and get a well known brand.
You can get some well known brands for pretty cheap!
