As much as I love gardening, gardens don't seem to love me. Every plant I plant seems to die within 6 months.

Other than the plastic variety can anyone suggest some robust plants that would suit a small courtyard area that has sandy soil.

Suggstions on how to keep them alive too would be great.

Have you thought about cacti or a succulent variety? I'm hopeless at keeping plants alive also. The one thing I've found that I can keep alive is a cacti. They don't mind if you forget to water them every now and then.

If planting outside, try planting native grasses. They need little water and look great when planted in clusters.

Of course inside, the good old Yucca is the hardiest plant. You only need to water every other week.
