Sure you can get into it reasonably cheaply but you won't stand out, there are myriads of hack detailers around the place and the last thing the industry needs are more of them who just do wash, wax, vac and so forth

To be a true pro you need to gain some serious skills and equipment and have an understanding of automotive surfaces like urethane, ABS, soft and hard rubber, vinyl, leather, different paint types and also have some chemistry knowledge

Then business skills, marketing, diversifying services etc

I don't use bulk products, only the best of the best and some of my own, my customers demand silicone free and earth friendly products which are not cheap, some in the $200 + per litre range.

My services go from 250 all the way up to 2,000 for doing paint correction, enhancement and protection on limosene's
how far do you want to take your work and do you want to stand out above the rest.

if so it will take some unique services and damn fine workmanship to achieve

Hi Danny,

Im a Car Detailer in Sydney, there is alot of factors you have to take into consideration before starting out.
I cant list them all here as the list would be too long, but a bried overview would be Business Registration > Equipment > Type of clients to target.
Are you going to take you own water and power? As 90% of the jobs i do they do not have Water or Power accessible onsite.
Are you going to do machine polising, are you experienced in this?
What equipment do you have? Shampoo Machine, Vacuum, High Pressure Washer etc. You will be looking at $6000 just for some decent equipment, then another few thousand if you want a generator. Then you have products ontop of that, are you going to use bulk products or premium products? You will go broke if you use products off the shelf from Retail Outlets and they arnt exactly the best products available. Check out www.waxit.com.au

I could go on all day but im sure you get the point that there is alot to think about. There is more hurdles then you think so experience is the key, its not as simple as just "cleaning a car". When you get a car covered in overspray or sap and the paint is heavily oxidized and swirled do you have to skills to bring it back to showroom condition?

Car Detailing

We are wanting to get some feedback with car detailing. On many occasions my friends & family call car detailers to come wash their cars, get it looking spick & span again as they dont have the time. They pay $190 & the car looks the same, the havent cleaned the door trims inside the car, under the bonnet, or even cleaned the windows, just a quick vacuum & wash. Thos that aren't car enthusiasts dont have a passion for cars therefore shouldnt be washing others pride & joys.
We have a few cars ourselves, a VR Calais, VL Calais drag car & a VP Calais, plus a motorbike. We love our cars, & treat them like you would not believe. ha ha

We are looking into strating our own car detailing business but before going ahead would like to know if anyone would pay for this service, & how much would you pay?

Trust me when I say that our car detailng is like no other, if anyone is interested in even coming to see our cars to see what we mean & give us a try, then please email me. Photos & references are available for some work we have done.

Any feedback would be great.
