Would love your wisdom.We are looking at purchasing 2cars 4 cyl prefer anything over 2001. My son is a first year Uni student and intends to get a vehicle as well. I know absolutely nothing about cars. I like the proton it looks good inside but should I steer clear as it is not a popular make. What are the drawbacks? I can spend up to $18,000.00. My son likes the Hyundais he can spend up to $8,000.00. Another car my son is looking at
is a toyota twin cam 1995 model. Is that any good? I have heard that Hyundai after 2 years the motor goes...does anyone have knowledge on these. I am single we both want 4 door. Would love your input, must be economical,cheap on parts, automatic. Don't think I am fussy will probably never be able to afford another one so I have to get it right.If you can suggest an alternative make that woul'd be appreciated. What do you think of dealer verses private sale versus auctions. Which one is better? Have been told get a Magna and convert it to gas with the Government rebate is that a good idea? Ok for my son, but I find 6 cyls a bit powerful. Thankyou

HI, while i cant help you with the proton, i have been an owner of 2 x hyundai's.
To be honest, i love them. SOOO economical. I do have one listed at the moment, so please dont think i am being biased. I have a 2004 accent that i am selling due to expanding family. If i wasnt pregnant with my second baby, there is NO WAY i would part with it.
I have never heard anything like that about the engines blowing up after 2 years, sounds silly with the fact that the new Hyundai's come out with a 5 year warranty....

I would highly reccommend Nissan Pulsar N15 or N16 models. Very reliable and very fuel efficent.
Steer clear from Hyundai's with Single Over Head Cam's as they get abit tired in their old age. Unless you get a double overhead motor you should be fine, i havent heard a single problem about them
Try stick to private sales as you will get a better deal unless you were wanting some sort of warrenty with your vehicle

Hi there, I read your predicement. I can't help you with a automatic but I am selling a manual toyota 5door. When i started looking for my previous purcharge, my mecanic recommended toyota, as it "keeps on going" as he puts it. Never had a toyota before but it stands up to its name, it is a very reliable and economical car to drive and it has never broken down. Maybe find the mecanic whom will look after the car you want to purcharge and ask him a few questions re; cost of part and how easy it is to work on sertain brands as that will contribute to the servicing cost
